June 24, 2021 is the day of significance as it marks the 47th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea(DPRK) and the People’s Democratic Republic of Laos.
The ties of friendship and cooperation between the DPRK and Laos, with the deep personal relations between the preceding leaders as a nourishing basis, have recorded consistent expansion and development in the joint struggle for independence against imperialism and for socialism.
The relationship of friendship and cooperation between the two countries was forged and deepened through historic summits of 1965 and 1970 between the great leader President Kim Il Sung and Comrade Kaysone Phomvihane, the respected leader of Lao people. This relationship has been ushered in a new chapter of its development since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries on June 24, 1974.
The historic Pyongyang summits held between the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung and the respected Comrade Kaysone Phomvihane in 1977 and 1992 served as the motive force for two countries to firm up the ties of friendship and cooperation in the face of 47-year-long history of trials and challenges.
On September 23, 2011, the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il together with the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un met Comrade Choummaly Sayasone, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. This has become an important occasion of strengthening and developing to a higher stage the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries which were forged in the joint struggle for independence against imperialism and for socialism.
The DPRK government and people remain unchanged in their determination and will to further expand and develop the relations of friendship and cooperation with Laos which has a shared idea of accomplishing the socialist cause, regardless of the change of situation.
When Comrade Thongloun Sisoulith was elected as the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party in January 2021 and as President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in March the same year, Comrade Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and President of the State Affairs of the DPRK, sent him congratulatory messages expressing his strong conviction that the traditional bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries would be carried on more steadily in the joint efforts for the victory of socialist cause in the future.
Our people will, in future, too, go shoulder to shoulder with the friendly and fraternal people of Laos in the joint efforts for the victory of socialist cause.
On this occasion, our people sincerely wish that the Lao people will make greater successes in their struggle for implementing the decisions of the 11th Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party(LPRP) and carrying out the 9th Five-Year Plan for socio-economic development under the leadership of the LPRP headed by Comrade Thongloun Sisoulith.
