Press Statement by Ri Son Gwon, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea

Today is a meaningful day that marks the 95th birth anniversary of Comrade Fidel Castro Ruz.

On this occasion, we express our high respect to Comrade Fidel Castro Ruz, a friend dear to the Korean people, and we also extend our comradely and militant greetings to the fraternal Cuban people who are making vigorous efforts for socialist construction.

Comrade Fidel Castro Ruz established the first-ever socialist country in the Western hemisphere on this planet by organizing and carrying out an armed struggle in his early years against the dictatorial regime of Batista, the U.S. stooge, and advanced the Cuban revolution to victory by countering decades of continued challenges and obstructions by the hostile forces.

The Cuban people respect, as ever, Comrade Fidel Castro Ruz as the historic leader of Cuban revolution and they are firmly safeguarding the socialism and the gains of revolution by upholding his cause in good faith.

We resolutely condemn and reject the latest anti-government protest that occurred in Cuba, as it is the anti-revolutionary move taken by the reactionaries at the urging and backing of the United States in an attempt to obliterate the cause of Comrade Fidel Castro Ruz and to bring down the socialist Cuba.

We highly appreciate the Cuban government and people for having stated their strong will to safeguard the socialist system by confronting all the challenges, and we extend once again our full support and solidarity to the Cuban people in their fight for overcoming the prevailing difficulties.
